Children First Summer Internship
Every year, Children First hosts an impactful Summer Internship Program that invites high school and college students to embark on a transformative journey. Over the course of ten weeks, participants engage in a dynamic learning experience, delving into the intricacies of project management, event planning, marketing, and community outreach. All of this leading to one week of summer activities for the participants of East Bakersfield.
The internship is a platform for students to turn their ideas into community-based events that leave a lasting impact. Students partner with each other to create four teams. Each team is given the task to put on an event of their choosing while also going out into the community and engaging local community partners to add to their event. The theme of the event has to engage and strive to improve the community in some manner. Past events have included topics such as mental health and safety, arts and crafts, and sports related activities.Throughout the program, we bring in inspiring speakers who shed light on the essential services available in Kern County, bridging the gap between our discussions on project management and the real-world needs of our community. Each student is expected to attend two Food Distributions.
By the end of the internship, students not only gain valuable skills but also contribute meaningfully to the well-being of East Bakersfield. It’s a journey of growth, collaboration, and empowerment, where each participant becomes a catalyst for positive change in our community.
